Historical markers such as plaques, cornerstones, and others have been used since at least the early-to-mid 1800s in Illinois. Among the many markers throughout central Illinois, many reference historical settlers—including John Hendrix and John Dawson who reportedly are the first white families to settle in what was then Keg Grove or Blooming Grove. Numerous other markers are included in this collection, including commemorative plaques and signs for churches, government organizations, and individuals throughout the area’s recent history.
