Photo of the Week, 97: Betsy Lee's Morning "Airing," January 1947

January 2nd, 2015

In the 1940s Margaret Brechbeller and her fox terrier Betsy Lee were a frequent sight in the residential neighborhood just west of downtown Bloomington. Four times a day Brechbeller would take Betsy Lee for an "airing" around the block surrounding their 610 West Washington Street residence. This photograph shows a 72-year-old Brechbeller and little Betsy Lee on one such a walk in early 1947. Betsy Lee was said to lap up a dish of prune juice every morning and have a "wild fear" of cats.
