FIELD TRIP PROGRAMS AND SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS

FIFTH GRADE THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Analyze That
Introduce your students to history by thinking outside the book!  We’ll discuss the tools and techniques of archaeology and uncover the meanings of objects in the People Gallery.  Students will analyze artifacts from the museum’s collection using primary research material and compile their own history of an archaeological site.

General Gallery Tour
This program is good for groups of over 40 students.  It requires a minimum of 90 minutes for a tour.  During the program, students will learn the history of McLean County using worksheets or our Family Workbook to explore the museum’s permanent exhibit galleries.  After a brief orientation to the Museum, students will be divided into smaller groups and led through the exhibits by staff, museum education volunteers, and chaperones.

Library / Archives Tour
The Stevenson-Ives Library contains a rich treasure of books and manuscripts that record the history of McLean County and its families.  Collections include maps, photographs, personal diaries, and other primary source materials for historical research assignments.  Reservations are necessary to use the library and archives with a class.  Admission for anyone using the library’s resources for a class is FREE.

Standing on the Corner- A walking tour of downtown Bloomington teaches students the significance of architecture in their community and Bloomington’s early history.  Also great for a self guided tour using our handy guide book.  For inclement weather, we will do an interior tour of the courthouse.
